2012 Summer Programs Announced!!
(KEARNY, NJ
& PARAMUS, NJ) -- Teen Drama, a high school theatre education company,
will soon be enrolling students ages 14 to 18 for its popular summer programs.
The 5 or 6-week musical theater series, designed especially for teenagers, starts June 25 and will run Mondays through Thursdays. At the conclusion of the program, students will participate in a full production of a Broadway hit musical. In Kearny students will participate in the Tony Winning Urinetown an in Paramus The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.
The Teen Drama program launched in the summer of 2010 to accolades and acclaim from community members, local and state officials, and representatives from the New Jersey State Council of the Arts, with the production of the Tony-award winning 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. The program returned last year with the wickedly successful, cult-classic riero, co-director. Ferriero brings a wealth of experience to the program, including founder and executive director of the Mater Dei Academy Drama Club, production Director at Studio Playhouse in Montclair and musical director at Paramus High School. He has also directed several plays and musicals for both middle schools, high schools and community theaters, and has himself performed in a variety of productions.
“Teen Drama the program is a fun and engaging way for students to explore their interest and deepen their skills in the performing arts during their summer vacation,” says Michele Sarnoski, co-director. State Certified staff in their field teach all classes, and students receive individual attention, constructive feedback, and the support need to achieve their personal goals. Sarnoski has been a cheerleading coach, choreographer and producer of several teen musicals.
“The success of TV shows such as Glee, Disney’s High School Musical, American Idol and Camp Rock, not to mention the popularity of Broadway shows such as American Idiot and Rent have inspired many young people to become more and more involved in the performing arts,” explains Ferriero. The Teen Drama program, he says, is an outgrowth of that interest. Cost of the program is $175. Space is limited and registration is on a first come, first served basis. Applications and additional information may be obtained by calling Teen Drama at 973-498-8336, emailing info@teendrama.org or may be downloaded at www.teendrama.org .
TD Pays tribute to the Broadway musical Lysistrata Jones!
The students of Teen Drama recently learned what it meant to be a top or flop on Broadway. Students explored top shows including the Book of Mormon and flop shows like Big the musical. Students also talked about the new musical Lysistrata Jones, which had fantastic reviews, but poor ticket sales. Below is a video of a song from Lyssie J!
